Adelaide's Royal Show returns the “Carers Lounge” for Special Needs in 2023

It’s back at the Show for 2023 - SACARE’s unique space for families with unique needs.

South Australia’s disability community continues to receive the ultimate show experience .

Last year saw the exciting, never seen before Carer’s Lounge by SACARE. A pioneer model to provide a calm, private and hygienic space for people living with disability, their families and carers.

The challenges faced navigating the Show with wheelchairs, finding a hygienic space to administer medications or special feeding requirements meant for some of our community. The easier option can be to stay at home.

“For the first time ever, our family experienced the Adelaide Show together, because of the Carers Lounge,” states Kate Auricht, whose daughter Paige has sensory sensitivities and complex medical needs.

“The SACARE Carer’s Lounge was a calm, beautifully presented space with such helpful and accommodating staff. It was a relief to have the use of the hoist for convenience and privacy. The kitchen facilities and sensory space were a chance to step away from the bustle and noise so that we could tend to Paige’s needs safely and with dignity.”

“For the first time ever, our family experienced the Adelaide Show. Together.”

Paige’s mother, Kate.

From lived experience to a relaxing experience.

A mother, carer and SACARE staff member sparked the idea in 2022. Frustrated with the lack of comfortable, clean places to feed her son through a special tube directly into his tummy. Discussing this need with the team at sacare and they have realised the concept.

It’s exciting to see the return of the SACARE Carers Lounge - and it has an exciting new home at this year’s Show. Located within Vili’s Dog Pavilion, the space will provide an insular quiet area with an interactive sensory room. Adjoining the sensory room is a private area allowing carers to administer medications and provide any special feeding requirements in a private space.

Across the foyer of the Vili’s Dog Pavilion, is the specialised accessible bathroom facility, complete with a height adjustable change table and hoist along with a separate accessible toilet and all the modern conveniences for both the carer and person with disability to tend to their personal needs in a hygienic and comfortable setting.

Comfort and consideration for carers.

The “Carers Lounge” is a collaboration of the Royal Adelaide Show and SACARE to bring inclusion to the fun and festivities that is a well loved, heritage annual event.  The family founded company holds27 years in the industry as one of South Australia’s leading disability support providers. Their aim is to give our disability community the same access and experience that everyone has a right to. With a reputation for asking ‘how to’ instead of accepting ‘what is’, sacare are bold and dynamic in their delivery of services and accommodation settings.
