NDIS Information for Participants & Families in Adelaide
The NDIS gives you a say in the support you need and where it comes from, helping you live life on your terms.
It is a government scheme that funds services and support for people with disabilities.
As an NDIS participant, SACARE can provide many funded services and supports for you.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that funds supports and services for people with a permanent and significant disability. Eligible participants receive an individual NDIS plan that allocates funding across three budget categories: Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. SACARE is a registered NDIS provider in Adelaide, delivering services across all three budget categories in South Australia.
What Is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is one of the most significant social reforms in Australia's history. Managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), it provides funding directly to people with disability, giving them choice and control over the supports they need to live, work, and participate in the community.
Unlike older block-funded disability systems, the NDIS is individualised. Each participant receives their own NDIS plan with funding tailored to their goals, their disability, and their support needs, meaning no two plans are the same.
Am I Eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible for the NDIS you must:
Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
Be aged under 65 at the time of your first access request
Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to complete everyday activities
Live in Australia
If you are over 65, you may be eligible for support through the aged care system instead. SACARE also provides private aged care and CHSP services — contact our team to discuss your options.

Understanding Your NDIS Plan — The 3 Budget Categories
Once approved, your NDIS funding is divided into three categories:
1. Core Supports Funding for everyday activities and supports. This includes daily personal activities, domestic assistance, community participation, and transport. Most SACARE in-home and community services are delivered under Core Supports.
2. Capacity Building Funding to help you build skills and independence over time. This includes support coordination, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, positive behaviour support, and life skills development. SACARE's allied health and THRIVE program services fall under this category.
3. Capital Supports Funding for higher-cost items such as assistive technology and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). SACARE's SDA homes and AT prescription services sit under this category.
