SACARE’S Carers Lounge driving inclusion to 2022 VALO Adelaide 500!

A green light for the special needs community.

We are proudly bringing back our ‘Carers Lounge’ at this year’s VALO Adelaide 500.

Here to refuel you on your racing day…

The VALO Adelaide 500 is one of the biggest events of the year for South Australians. With world renowned artists, action packed events, and the famous Repco Supercars Championship, the roar of the engines and excited crowds may get a little overwhelming.

With this in mind, we have decided to hit the gas and bring back The Carer’s Lounge to provide our community with sensory sensitivities or complex needs a place to rest, change, and feed.

The Carers Lounge is a much-needed solution for individuals who are challenged with finding a hygienic space to administer medications or special feeding requirements and give them the opportunity to attend an event that they may usually miss due to the lack of accessibility!

This year we are delighted to announce that we are working with the VALO team to bring “The Carers Lounge” to you. A thoughtfully created space for carers, support workers, families, and people with disability to unwind or tend to medical requirements in comfort, quiet and with dignity.

A place to Rest, Change, and Feed.

Derived from the personal experience of one of our staff members after attending multiple events with unsanitary spaces and lack of privacy to change and feed her son through a special tube directly into his tummy. She brought the idea to the attention of the teams at sacare, and we started the engines on the innovative idea!

Launched in September 2022 at the Royal Adelaide Show, sacare brought three main spaces for our community to utilise. The first space included a kitchen and lounge area for feeding, medical preparation, medical equipment cleaning, and comfortable seating to administer medications and food. The next area was used as a sensory space to rest and recoup when the craziness of the show became a little too much. And finally, an accessible changing space with a height adjustable change table, a hoist, and all the mod cons for both carer and person with disability to tend to personal needs in a hygienic and comfortable setting was added in a separate pod.

We are excited to waive the checkered flag on the facilities and make the return of the VALO Adelaide 500 a little easier to attend for our community in 2022.
