NDIS Update for South Australians from Mags Raw

The NDIS roll-out seems to be a long confusing ride for all of those involved, but hopefully, once it is in place it will make a huge difference.

To keep you in the loop, we asked out NDIS Coordinator Mags Raw, to give you a quick update on the state of the NDIS is South Australia.

"As of 31 December 2017, more than 15,000 participants had approved plans in South Australia. This is exciting… but there are still a lot of people waiting patiently for their planning meetings!

Originally all clients transitioning to the NDIS were meant to have approved plans by 30 June 2018…hmmmm.

Clearly, they are a little behind schedule, so recently NDIS have announced they now aim to have all plans approved by December 31 2018

The NDIS have stated the reason for the delay is because they are wanting to focus on “a high-quality planning experience and outcomes for participants” therefore they do not want to rush the process.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW

  • By 30 June 2018, everyone who is eligible for the NDIS should have received a letter or a phone call advising them their access has been approved. If you'd like to become an SACARE client and you are unsure of your eligibility for NDIS or it is unclear whether or not your access has been approved, please feel free to contact me on 1300 145 636 and I can help you through the process
  • If you have still not had your planning meeting by 31 December 2018, then make sure you contact NDIS and advise them you are still waiting! For more details head to the NDIS website.

REMEMBER

  • Even when your access to NDIS has been “approved” this does not mean you have now switched to NDIS funding. You will transfer to NDIS funding once you have had a planning meeting and your plan has been approved.
  • Until your plan has been approved (the final piece of the puzzle!) your current funding arrangements from DCSI or Disability SA will remain in place.

For those currently going through the planning process, I hope all is going well and that our NDIS life plan booklet is helping you think about the things you may want to discuss at your NDIS planning meeting.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions at all!

Cheers,
Mags Raw
(SACARE NDIS Coordinator)
