SACARE have teamed up with the City of Tea Tree Gully and are excited to announce a new volunteer program. The SACARE volunteer program aims to reduce isolation for our Clients with a disability, increase emotional wellbeing and improve their quality of life. Alex Killey, SACARE’s Lifestyle Coordinator says that, “The main issue that continues to arise in Lifestyle, is social interaction and inclusion. I have not yet met a Client that does not want social interaction or inclusion on some level.” As the clients develop their wellbeing, so does their demand for more one on one social interaction and group activities.
We are seeking volunteers that are willing to listen, talk and develop a friendship with a client with a disability to make a difference and to bring joy to their lives. Clients are matched with a volunteer who has similar interests or background.
One-on-one volunteer time provides a cup of tea, a conversation, an opportunity to play a board game, or time to get ‘out and about’. Somewhere close by? Regular visits can be arranged and highly encouraged.
You will need empathy, patience, compassion and excellent listening skills combined with a friendly, caring approach to be successful in this role.
When: Monday – Friday (days to be negotiated with Volunteer)
Time: approximately 1 hour, with start times to be negotiated.
Where: Tolley House, Hope Valley
